Trusteeship – Part 1: the theory

"Learn how pension schemes work, how to be a trustee, and good scheme governance"

Coronavirus: An update on changes to our TRAINING And Education  programme

18 March 2020. As the coronavirus situation continues, the PLSA is taking measures to protect the health and wellbeing of our staff, members and stakeholders and, we hope, to help reduce the impact on the NHS. Our face-to-face training courses and teach-ins are postponed until later in the year. We are contacting those who have booked places to rearrange, and working with our training and education partners to make sure we can continue to deliver high-quality training and education throughout the year.

Our expert trainers take trustees with less than 12 months’ experience, including no experience at all, through how pension schemes work, what is expected of them and how to apply good scheme governance.

This course is aimed mainly at DB trustees, but certain parts of the course apply to DC schemes too.

you'll learn about

  • Pension trustee duties, responsibilities and powers
  • How trustees protect themselves against legal challenge
  • Types of advisers and advice
  • How workplace pension schemes are financed and how they value their assets and liabilities
  • Investment strategies
  • Accountability and communication
  • Good pension scheme governance
