NAPF responds to Government pensions commitments
13 May 2010, Press Release
Pensions must be priority for new Government
Joanne Segars, Chief Executive of the NAPF, said: “Now the talk and hype of the Election is finally over and a new Government is in place, no time must be lost in knuckling down and focusing on what is a critical challenge for the UK: tackling the pensions crisis and creating the right conditions for pensions – and pensioners – to prosper.
“Whilst there is much to welcome in the new Government’s pensions proposals, there is little evidence of the bold thinking needed to restore workplace pensions to the heart of retirement saving in the UK.
“The Chancellor’s Emergency Budget will be crucial in determining whether the Government has the resolve to put pensions at the heart of the new administration and create stable conditions for pensions saving in the UK over the long term.
“The long-term implications of making the wrong decisions on pensions will be hard felt by millions well into the future and way beyond this and the next Government.”
