MIFID II – top five actions for pension schemes
MiFID II introduces a wide-ranging series of changes affecting financial services regulation in the EU. These changes will impact on UK pension schemes and the way in which they use and pay for fund management services. Trustees, scheme managers and other senior decision-makers will need to be aware of, and take action on, these issues.

The central proposal of this initial Consultation Paper is that the UK should develop a set of ‘national retirement income targets’ which would help stimulate public debate on adequacy, help individuals plan for retirement, and act as a guide to public policy.
DB taskforce reports
The DB Taskforce was set up by the PLSA in March 2016 to undertake a review of the challenges currently facing funded defined benefit (DB) pension schemes, and make recommendations to Government which will (a) help ensure the sustainability of open DB schemes and (b) help closed DB schemes run off more efficiently and ultimately secure member benefits.
The PLSA commissioned research to examine how individuals age 55 – 70 with a DC pension pot not yet in payment accessed their pensions between October 2015 and December 2016.
