Ronan has worked in operational and policy roles in the Department for Work and Pensions and predecessor Departments since 1988. He moved to private pension policy in 2011, leading on amongst other things, the charge cap for defined contribution pensions, the Act to introduce defined ambition pensions, as well as supporting the introduction of the pension freedoms. He is currently the deputy director for defined benefit pension policy, leading the team responsible for assessing the issues facing DB schemes, which resulted in the Green Paper – Security and Sustainability in Defined Benefit Pensions Schemes. He is currently working on finalising the White Paper which is due to be published shortly.
