Former Chair, Southwark Pension Fund
Fiona started her career in investment management firstly at Dresdner RCM and then Barclays Global Investors. Following her election to Southwark Council she decided to switch her career to the public sector, but continued to be involved in pensions investment as a trustee for the authority’s scheme.
Until stepping down as an elected member this May, Fiona was the Chair of Southwark Council’s Pension Committee and the authority’s Cabinet Member for Finance, Modernisation & Performance. Whilst at Southwark she led the way on incorporating carbon risk into the authority’s pension investment strategy and commitment to fossil fuel divestment and, working in collaboration with other London authorities, set out a roadmap for measurement and reduction of the fund’s carbon footprint including taking decisions to transition half the authority’s passive equity assets (£300m) to low carbon funds and investing £30m into a sustainable energy infrastructure fund.
Her work at Southwark was recognised at the 2018 Professional Pensions Women in Pensions Awards, where she was highly commended in the Trustee of the Year category.
Fiona was a member of the London CIV Joint Sectoral Committee from its inception, a member of the London Council’s Capital Ambitions Board and a member of the London Fire & Emergency Planning Authority and its pension board. She previously held responsibility for Regeneration in Southwark, leading the regeneration of the Elephant & Castle and Aylesbury Estates.
