Pension basics

Pension Basics consists of two sessions:   

  • Session  1 -  Getting to know the UK pensions system
  • Session  2   - Understanding the outcomes

The sessions are offered through our virtual training platform using an internet connection.

Please note: You will need internet access with video and audio for this training. If you work in an open plan office you may wish to use headphones.

WHAT IS PENSION BASICS FOR?

To introduce basic principles of UK pension provision.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Anyone who wants to know more about UK pensions without becoming an expert. Particularly suitable for HR personnel and new trustees.

Session  1Getting to know the UK pensions system

  • Background to the origins of the UK pensions system
  • Key facts about the three main UK pension systems (State, workplace and personal pensions) and how they compare
  • The varieties of workplace pension schemes
  • The Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution concept

Session   2  - Understanding the outcomes

  • Defined benefit schemes and their benefit structures
  • Defined contribution schemes, how they provide outcomes and who provides them 
  • Who manages and monitors workplace pensions 
  • Where and how to find out more about workplace pension saving eg sources of information, websites, tools and calculators

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

After taking part in both sessions you will be able to:

  • Explain key facts about the three main UK pension systems and use these to make general comparisons between them
  • Describe the characteristics and varieties of workplace pension schemes and how they differ
  • Discuss key features of workplace pensions with employees

FEES

A single fee of  £160+VAT covers both sessions 1 & 2

VIRTUAL SESSION DATES AND TIMES

 

 

The sessions are offered through our virtual training platform using an internet connection. 

Both sessions each lasting 1 hour are offered on the same day:
Session 1 - Getting to know the UK pensions system  (11:00 -12:00)
Session 2 - Understanding the outcomes  (14:00 -15:00)
