Anne Richards


Chief Executive Officer, M&G Investments

Anne is the Chief Executive of M&G, a position she has held since June 2016 and Deputy Chief Executive M&G Prudential, since October 2017.

Before joining M&G, Anne was Global Chief Investment Officer and Head of the EMEA region for Aberdeen Asset Management PLC.

Anne graduated with a first class honours degree in electronics and electrical engineering from the University of Edinburgh, and began her career as a research fellow in Geneva at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, CERN, before joining the technology consultancy Cambridge Consultants. After gaining her MBA with distinction from Insead in France, she became an analyst for Alliance Capital in 1992 and then moved into portfolio management with roles at JPMorgan Investment Management and Mercury Asset Management. She joined the Board of Edinburgh Fund Managers as Chief Investment Officer and Joint Managing Director in 2002, and continued as CIO of Aberdeen Asset Management following its acquisition of Edinburgh Fund Managers in 2003.

Anne is Vice Convener of the Court of Edinburgh University, Chair of the CERN & Society Foundation and Chair of the Financial Conduct Authority Practitioner Panel. She is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, an Honorary Fellow of the CFA Institute (UK) and holds an honorary degree from Heriot-Watt University. Anne is also on the Board of Leaders of 2020 Women on Boards, a US organisation which aims to increase the proportion of women on corporate boards. From 2012-2016 Anne was a non-Executive Director of Esure Group. She is also on the Steering Committee of the 30% Club. Anne was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) in 2014, and a CBE in 2015, for services to the financial services industry and voluntary service. In September 2017 she was placed at Number 47 on the Fortune Most Powerful Women International List.
